The Internet has become an essential tool for academic as well as personal research and communication.  The library computers are open to students, faculty and staff as well as residents of the Highland Community College District. It is expected, however, that when usage is especially heavy that students working on academic assignments will always have priority over those using them for personal work, email, or games.

The Internet computers may not be used for illegal activity.

Please do not download software from the Internet to the local machines.  These programs often interfere with the college software network and the machine must then be removed from service until it can be fixed.

We are steadfast adherents to the Library Bill of Rights and believe that all library patrons have an expectation of privacy while using our computers.  In return, we expect library patrons to use the machines responsibly and not display on their screens material that might be offensive to others using the library.

Recognizing that filters are ineffective and often filter out material required to do serious research, the library computers will remain unfiltered.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Eric Welch, Dean of Learning Resources at 599-3457.
